you're reading...

The book I recommend as of late.

I went to the library this week and took out an entire months worth of books, which constitutes of approximately 8 books. I have been reading 5 of them in between children, domestic and errand shift changes in my home. One of the books, ” The Bitch in the House” by Cathi Hanauer has become my evening go to reference book. Have any of you read this hidden gem? If not, I suggest a trip to whatever book outlet you can get your hands on. If you’re a man, this is the great secret for you. No more B.S. lines about fully understanding your woman and saying the right thing, here there is actual proof of what you need to do. Stories and evidence of exactly in perfect clear honesty of what is going through our minds, nevermind what we really want to say to you or anyone else.

Ladies, if you are like many, many, many other women out there, always in a struggle to juggle your own life and please everyone else, but end up doing the latter, and feel every day that a bottle of wine, a pack of cigarettes and smashing dishes like any good Greek would not be enough, I suggest an evening read of this.

It has tamed my almost cleaning out the kitchen cupboards and replaced it with a good long sigh and some serious thinking.

I think of all the books I have read offering up advice on how to balance the spirit of oneself and the demands of literally everybody else, this one is realistic. There is no bit of advice that lingers at the end of each of the 26 stories from real women, no. There are no cliché therapeutic techniques to try, like breathing for 10 seconds, no. There are no suggestions that imply we are always right and that women are the almighty,no. It is just a group of woman telling their side of things in their honesty, raw and uncensored. I can’t tell you how relatable more than half of these varying situations have been, thus saving me from my self sabotage, another bottle of wine?

If you’re having a crappy day, or week or month like I have stumbled upon, a good release is knowing that yes, (I know it’s a cliché), “you’re not alone.”

I’ll drink to that ladies.

Cheers to you ladies out there who feel ______ and cheers to the men who give a damn about us!

I believe in always asking questions, even when nobody else will. l love the bountiful Okanagan Valley, where I call home and anticipate each season, as creativity and inspiration take their form all over the place here. I love the clinche saying, "You've made your bed, now lie in it." I believe we create our paths and determine our futures. Maya Angelou puts it simple and exact, " Be present in all things and thankful for all things."
